Wronged

It hurts when you are wronged. I bet jie jie feels that way too. Cai cai do agree in a certain extend that my nerves got over me and I over reacted in a situation. Am glad jie jie understands me and see that my 出发点 is good.

Anyway, jie jie is deciding to send cai cai to obedience school for some behavioural correction. Man.... is it that serious? I'm not sure how this school thing works. If you have been following cai's dlog, you will read that cai cai has got this thing called fear aggression or cai cai tend to get nervous easily.

Okay, this was what happened. The other day, jie jie brought cai cai over to a chalet and cai cai got along well with the kids. I really love them especially little Ray. Thus cai cai took it in my stride to watch over them, especially little Ray. Then this strange big man came over and played along while carrying Ray. Cai cai can smell unfriendly people. He knows this big man must be one of that kind, so cai cai was exceptionally suspicious and wary of him. And suddenly, this unfriendly man made a movement to hit little Ray. Cai had no time to think at all, I started to bark and growl at him fiercely while showing my perfect white teeth.

It was not cai cai's fault that my teeth looked scary or that his arm brushed against them in a wild attempt to fend me off. I is mad! How dare he try to hit baby Ray! ROAARR!!! Well, I really dun understand humans at this point. Jie jie tried to stop me from barking at this horrid guy when he is up to no good. And he started to yell that I bit him! Excuse me??? Jie jie was sure that there wasn't any teeth mark and he started accusing me of trying to attack little Ray??? Man... cai cai felt so injusticed at that point man.

While jie jie chastised me for being so reckless and overly suspicious, I can tell that she was defending for me at the same time. I is confused. Is this behaviour wrong? In jie jie's opinion, I reacted wrongly to a situation which didnt derive from being a bad boy. Aiya... I just hope school is fun for now. Am keeping my fingers crossed.

Pet Movers & ALL

Cai finally visited Pet Movers! I saw the swimming drainage!!!! I must say I is a scardy cat.... I approach everything with my tail hung down. Am glad jie jie din decide to throw me into that pool. Would have wished that jie jie let me stay in the open field longer but she was much more busy giving away cai's kibbles to the next door neighbours.

Though Aunt Anita was a very nice lady, Cai must admit that cai got pretty annoyed that jie jie kept talking to her cos the rest were having fun still at the run. And boy did cai did voice it out vocally. With that killer look in her eyes, jie warned me that she will not take me there anymore should I behave in that not socially accepted behaviour. *whin... Cai is but a spoiled brat ma... I'm just behaving the way I'm supposed to be.

I hope the next time, jie jie will just let me go in the run while she help the neighbours if she likes. Cai is more than abled to take care of himself. But the rules in the run states that dog owners have to be there to supervise. Man... so many rules...

Nostalgic

Jie jie mentioned to cai cai before that she wonders how cai's real parents are like. Sad to say.... Cai cai cannot recall how mama looks like le. She's worried that I'm a product of a puppy mill after reading horrid articles written on petshop puppies.

I remembered the time I was alone and afraid in that petshop. I saw mei mei got adopted by a middle age couple. I wonder how she's doing now cos according to jie jie that couple seemed to be buying her on impulse and not informed about taking care of one. In fact, jie jie's initial intention was to buy mei mei but that couple was one step ahead. I did not get to kiss mei mei, but am grateful that jie jie helped me stroke and hug, whispering to mei mei to be xing fu one last time before she left for a new life. After they left, jie jie started to decide if she should get cai cai. She has long saw cai cai's antics through that petshop window. Cai cai was a playful pup (still is now) that was practically chewing up the toys that were presented to him but when taken out for viewing, he gets into a shivering fit.

To jie jie, cai cai was then a ke lian orphan with no papa mama when he was alone in the small coop up pet shop cage. These days, jie jie will craddle me in her arms and tell cai how fortunate that she has me and that I'm is no longer an orphan cos I've got her as well. She will be my mama and I will never be alone again. Ow Jie jie...

Extra to spare

Cai cai has got 2 packs of kibbles ready to donate. I just dunno how to go about. One is a premium brand Blue which jie jie has already stopped for me and another that's gonna be dued next month. Jie jie is helping cai cai think of ways to make full use of them.

One will be to go around feeding strays around our area but jie jie has yet to embark on that before so she's feeling blur and asking around how to go about. Aiyo... humans sometimes just complicate things. Want to feed just feed la. Just dun ask cai cai to go with her can le. Cai cai is bad with big gloomy peers.

Been trying to suggest to her that those packs can be given away to shelters too. Cai cai has heard of wonderful stories of private pools and dog runs that are also located near those shelters. Kill 2 birds with one stone la jie jie. Donate thoes packs then proceed to take me out to play lor.

National Dog Walk 2006

I swear Jie Jie is still having dreams and I cant seem to enter them so that at least they would be happy ones.

Cai pray

Jie Jie isnt feeling good these few days I supposed cos these few nights she kept tossing so much in bed and even once cried in her sleep. Cai cai dunno how to make her feel better so I just laid beside her hoping that my warmth reaches her.

I pray that the consecutive bad dreams every night will go away and steer clear so that she can regain her nice nice sleep.

What is good for Cai Cai?

Cai cai's currently taking Blue Kibbles plus Innova. So far so good though I kinda hate eating the same stuff everyday. But good food is normally not tasteful huh. Anyway, Jie Jie found an interesting post to aid furball mamas and papas on what to look out when choosing the right kibbles for all fidos like me!

Ingredients which automatically rule out a food.
If these are anywhere in the ingredients list, put it down and look for something else.

A non-meat first ingredient is an automatic no go.

Meat by-products: By-products can vary ... they can consist of the internal parts of animals such as necks, heads, undeveloped eggs, feet, intestines, lungs, spleen and liver. Although by-products are used by many manufacturers, are these ingredients you would knowingly feed your pet?

Corn: Corn products are difficult for dogs to digest.

Food Fragments: Lower cost by-products of another food manufacturing process. Examples include wheat bran and brewer's rice (a waste product of the alcohol industry).

Meat and bone meal: "Meat and bone meal" and "beef and bone meal" are inexpensive sources of animal protein. The protein in a meal containing a large amount of bone may be poorly digestible and fail to provide adequate nutrition.

Animal Fat: Animal fat is a "generic" fat source that is most often made up of rendered animal fat, restaurant grease, or other oils too rancid or deemed inedible for humans. Look for a named fat source, such as poultry or chicken fat, that is naturally preserved.

Chemical Preservatives: Chemical preservatives include butylated hydroxyanisole (BHA), butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT), propyl gallate, propylene glycol (also used as a less-toxic version of automotive antifreeze), and ethoxyquin. BHA, BHT, and ethoxyquin are potentially cancer-causing agents. The long term build-up of these chemicals (that may be eaten every day for the life of your pet!) have not been thouroughly studied and may ultimately be harmful.

Sweeteners: Sweeteners such as corn syrup, sugar, and cane mallases are usually added to lower quality foods to increase their appeal. Dietary sugars can aggrevate health problems, including diabetes.

Beef Tallow A low quality fat product.

SugarThis is not an ingredient most people would expect to find in dog food, but many foods do, in fact, contain sugar, especially the semi-moist brands. In fact, some semi-moist foods contain as much as 15% sugar. The sugar adds palatability and moisture, and aids in bacterial contamination prevention. Dogs do not need this amount of sugar, which can stress the pancreas and adrenal glands, causing diabetes. Completely devoid of protein, vitamins and minerals, sugar is, literally, empty calories.

Food colorings These still commonly used in pet foods today despite the fact that they are not necessary and some have been linked to medical problems

Stuff to look for

Rice A combination of brown and white rice. The white rice for digestibility and the brown for its added nutritional value. A diet product that is 100% brown rice can be somewhat hard for some animals to digest. Rice is good, corn is not.

Meat vs Meal Pet food labels found in grocery and mass marketers like to use Chicken or Lamb to represent real meat. – (Contains 70% moisture). This leads you the consumer to believe that their product is meat based. Chicken or lamb meats are heavier than grains prior to cooking. The moisture contained in the meats (70%) is reduced by 2/3rds after the cooking process, leaving the total formula as a grain base food after processing. Therefore, pound for pound, meal is better than meat as its basically a concentrated form of meat, less water, more protein!

Wheat Wheat is ok, as long as its not in the top 3 ingredients

Other Ingredients and what they are for

Chicken Fat (Omega 6) Essential fatty acids, maintains moisture in skin cells and is easily digested.

Fish Meal (Omega 3) Essential fatty acids, controls skin inflammation, helps relieve itching & hot spots.

Flax Seed (Omega 3) Essential fatty acids, helps reduce allergy problems caused from flea bites and gives the coat a shiny luster.

Sunflower Oil (Omega 6) Essential fatty acids, prevents scruffy, dry coat and maintains moisture in skin cells.

Lecithin Helps emulsify cholesterol and aids in the digestion and absorption of fats that feed the coat.

Linoleic Acid (Omega 6) Essential fatty acids, helps to prevent moisture loss from cells that cause flaky, dry skin and coat.


Sage Strengthens the mind and concentrating abilities; it aids in healing skin sores and skin eruptions and removing dandruff. It has been mostly employed in disordered states of the digestion and for its savory usage.

Vitamin E (mixed tocopherols) Nourishes and heals the skin.

Biotin Aids in the growth and health of hair.

Cranberry Meal Prevents the spread of bacterial infections in kidneys and the urinary tract. Helps prevent Cystitis.


Rosemary Is a stimulant of the circulatory system; to treat bad breath; stimulates the hair bulbs to new growth. Employed for its savory usage.


Apple Meal Rich in soluble fiber, lowers blood cholesterol levels and normalizes blood sugar.


Amaranth Vitamin packed herb, calms the stomach, reduces tissue swelling, removes worms and parasites from the digestive tract.


Brewers Yeast (Nutritional Yeast) A rich source of the B vitamins, contains 16 amino acids, 14 minerals and 17 vitamins. Protects, binds and rids from mycotoxins, which cause liver and organ damage..


Yucca Used for its reduction of both breath and stool odor ! A cleansing agent. Used by the Indians of the southwest for skin disorders, skin eruptions and helps avoid inflammation..


Eggs An excellent source of protein and contains all the essential Amino Acids..


Lactobacillus Acidophilus, Streptococcus Faecium fermentation extracts Probiotics. Better digestion and absorption of nutrients, they act to exclude and prevent harmful bacteria from colonizing and creating digestive upsets, helps prevent sickness and stress..

Yeast Culture All natural live yeast culture, it acts to stimulate microbial and enzyme populations in the animals digestive system. Live yeast cultures plus dried fermentation solubles..

COPPER AND IRON A deficiency of iron causes nutritional anemia. A small amount of copper will improve utilization of iron..


Beet Pulp (Sugar) CONTROVERSIAL
• AAFCO - Beet Pulp is the dried residue from sugar beets which has been cleaned and extracted in the process of manufacturing sugar.
• Natura uses it because - "it as a good source of fiber and a stool hardener". However, it is not found in their Innova or California Natural products.
• Solid Gold doesn't use it because they believe it is: "Added to pet food to slow down the transition of rancid animal fats (think toxic waste). This holds the waste in. Kidneys and liver work overtime. Dogs may chew their lower backs. Feet may swell, so the dogs lick their feet. Sugar is a contributing factor to ear infections and cataracts".
Beet pulp is rather controversial, many think that it is an excellent additive and source of fiber and that all sugar has been completely extracted before being added as a pet food ingredients. If this is the only "problem" ingredient in a kibble, other factors will have to help you decide.

Brewers Rice
• AAFCO - Brewer's Rice is the small milled fragments of rice kernels that have been separated from the larger kernels of milled rice.
• Natura will not use it because they state it is a "lower quality rice product that is missing many of the nutrients found in Ground Rice and Ground Brown Rice." Solid Gold says that is the sweepings from the floor of the mill.

Rice Bran
• AAFCO - Rice Bran is the outer coating of the rice kernel, with little or none of the starchy part of the germ.
• Natura and Solid Gold reject it because it is "an inexpensive source of fiber that is considered a filler ingredient", i.e. devoid of nutrient value.

Sorghum
• AAFCO - Sorghum is the ground grain of the sorghum plant.
• Natura alleges that although sorghum is good source of carbohydrates, it is low in digestibility.

Side Note
Condemned parts and animals rejected for human consumption can be rerouted into commercial pet foods. These condemned parts are referred to as the 4 D's: dead, dying, diseased or decayed. We believe this is one of the most despicable practices in the pet food manufacturing industry.
Some manufacturers have a lower standard regarding the quality of ingredients they use to make pet food. A recent example of this practice is the discovery of Pentobarbital in major pet foods, including supermarket brands. Pentobarbital is a chemical used to euthanize animals. Many holistic veterinarians feel that daily ingestion of pentobarbital can be harmful.
Many manufacturers cut costs by using the cheapest ingredients available at the time a food is made. Since costs rise and fall, some manufacturers will vary ingredients from batch to batch .. resulting in changed nutrient values for each batch and possible digestive illness.
Some manufacturers have lower standards regarding the freshness of ingredients they use to make pet food. You can not determine the freshness of ingredients by reading a label; you must trust the pet food manufacturer.

Now that Avril has shared her side of her view. It's cai cai's turn to show you another clip. These gor gor jie jies are so beautiful and yet people wanna kill them? Cai cai's perplex. In fact cai cai thinks he's actually much more fierce when he wanna be lor. Of cos I will get it from Avril if I do so. Can someone tell cai cai why my species get such treatment when all we know is to love regardless of skin, age, race, religion, treatment.....

New Transport Mode

Wee... Auntie's getting a car car!!!! That's great news wor! Jie Jie been telling me so much of where she can drive cai cai to and places that are so unreachable by public transport. Aiyo... The way they always describe of those dog runs, cai cai really cant wait to go de... So far cai cai has only been WCDR once lor.. How pathetic right. Jie Jie always have to make me sit in one of those hot hot bags just to take me to faraway places. She also complain loads of how heavy cai cai can be. Me only 5.2kg what.

Lucky or what

Today cai cai has got 3 visitors. As you know cai cai is very defensive of his house, so cai cai barked at them all when they first arrived. =P K la... at least I warmed up to them soon.
Actually they are gor gor friends and they came to play the so called majong. Dun like this majong thing la. Make such a din and plus cai cai get less attention. Anyway, cai cai overheard gor gor telling jie jie that cai cai helped him win the last round. 9 tais or something like dat. Sounds like a big deal to them wor. Anyway, jie jie says I bring her luck at the majong table too when she last played. Of cos la! Cai cai is a lucky star wat!

Finally Jie Jie's back from Hong Kong. Aw man.. That stupid gal... Didn't she know that cai cai was waiting for her return every night. *whine* Gor Gor says I look so forlorn... I miss Jie Jie ma.. Cai cai wanna go out for his walks too..

Anyway, Jie Jie did return with a gift for cai cai. TADA! Presenting Cai Cai's new bed! Kehehehe.. Quite comfy and just the right size!

The long affair

Everyday (since dunno when) without fail, jie jie is tormenting me. She's making me go through this torturous routine every evening.

Firstly, she would wheel out this huge table into the living room and drop me onto it. Then out appears a big bowl of ice water! Slurpz! Cai's favourite is iced-water lor.

But hell!!!!

Jie jie's not letting me have it at all! Instead, she uses a cloth soaked inside to wipe cai cai's paws! Sometimes it stings and sometimes the coldness really gets to me. I wonder why she's been at this for a week.

Then comes the part where she will apply some nice smelling cream on cai cai's paws. I feel so very much like licking them. But she's always scolding me when I do so. So I try to hide away to lick me paws.

Next will be the usual combing, teeth brushing, ear cleaning at times.. blah blah blah.
All these tasks just takes so much of my play and sleep time away lor. Cai Cai wants to go out more instead. But Jie Jie keep telling me cos of the rain and plus cai cai's injured paws, I cant go down to the grass. SIANZ 1/2

One fine morning, auntie pushed this really funny looking blue box. And somehow, cai cai landed inside. Auntie says she's gonna push me to the market. I cant see lor...

CNY Recollections

Of cos the star of the day is none other than me Cai Cai. Yupz... I was panting cos I had a great workout ma. I was still very furry tat time oh.
